DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO BLACK HAWK

Traveling from Denver International Airport

Black Hawk is approximately 55 miles from Denver International Airport (DEN). The drive typically takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on traffic and weather. 

 From the airport:

  1. Take Peña Boulevard from DEN toward Denver. 
  2. Merge onto I-70 West toward Denver/Grand Junction. 
  3. Continue west on I-70 through Denver and into the foothills. 
  4. Take Exit 244 for US-6 West toward Golden. 
  5. Follow US-6 West through Clear Creek Canyon. 
  6. Turn right onto CO-119 North toward Black Hawk/Central City. 
  7. Follow CO-119 approximately 3 miles into Black Hawk. 

Travel Tip: Mountain weather and road conditions can change quickly. Check current conditions at cotrip.org before your trip, especially during the winter months.


Traveling east from the Mountains

  1. Take I-70 East toward Denver. 
  2. Continue east on I-70 through the mountains. 
  3. Take Exit 243 for Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway. 
  4. Follow Central City Parkway (CO-6) toward Central City and Black Hawk. 
  5. Continue through Central City toward Black Hawk. 
  6. Follow signs into Black Hawk, where you can easily access Main Street, Gregory Street and the city’s three districts. 

Traveling west from Denver

Located about 40 miles west of Denver, Black Hawk is an easy mountain getaway with two primary routes from the metro area. 

  • Option 1: Clear Creek Canyon via US-6 — Scenic Route
    From Denver, take US-6 West through Golden and continue through Clear Creek Canyon. At the junction with CO-119, follow CO-119 north directly into Black Hawk. This route offers a scenic drive alongside Clear Creek and brings you directly into the city. 
  • Option 2: I-70 & Central City Parkway
    Take I-70 West from Denver to Exit 243 for Central City Parkway. Follow the parkway approximately 8 miles toward Central City, then continue through Central City into Black Hawk. 

Traveling north from Colorado Springs

  1. Take I-25 North from Colorado Springs toward Denver. 
  2. Take Exit 209A for US-6 West/6th Avenue toward Lakewood. 
  3. Follow US-6 West through Lakewood and Golden. 
  4. Continue on US-6 West through Clear Creek Canyon. 
  5. At the junction with CO-119, turn right and follow CO-119 North toward Black Hawk/Central City. 
  6. Continue on CO-119 directly into Black Hawk. 

Alternate Route: Depending on traffic and road conditions, travelers can continue from the Denver area on I-70 West to Exit 243 for Central City Parkway, then follow the parkway toward Central City and continue into Black Hawk.

Traveling south from Loveland

  1.  Take I-25 South from Loveland toward Denver. 
  2. Take Exit 228 for E-470 South toward I-70. 
  3. Continue on E-470 South and then C-470 toward Golden. 
  4. Take the exit for US-6 West toward Golden/Clear Creek Canyon. 
  5. Follow US-6 West through Clear Creek Canyon. 
  6. At the junction with CO-119, turn right and follow CO-119 North toward Black Hawk/Central City. 
  7. Continue on CO-119 directly into Black Hawk.
